Geylang Cheap Eats

Well this time I am going to blog about the famous food in Geylang, Singapore.

Basically when you mentioned about Geylang, people will ask you, " Have you tried the famous 田鸡粥 a.k.a Spring Chicken(Frog) Porridge and 牛肉河粉 a.k.a Beef Hor Fan? Not to mentioned about the red light district.

We didn't wait too long approximately 8 months though when I started to work in Singapore, we visited Geylang with 2 friends who lead us then to this shop called 牛河大王(Beef King Hor Fan) at Geylang Lorong 9.

From the reviews of tonnes of Food Enthusiast, this shop in Singapore sells the best Beef Hor Fan. Serve it while it is piping hot and believe me, you will definitely crave for more!

Next up, located opposite of the Hor Fan shop, you get the best Spring Chicken(Frog) Porridge in town!

Both the porridge and spring chicken are served in claypot to keep their warmth. My first thumb up, is for the porridge. It is so creamy and tender at which it's puzzle would be completed by mixing it with the Spring Chicken(Frog).

Next thumb up - 宫保田鸡. The spring chicken is cooked with some dry chilli, soy sauce and some onion. This is a must try! Absolutely yummilicious!

A fried Sambal Belacan Kangkung and a fried oyster to complete our course for dinner!

At about 58 SGD for 4 of us inclusive a glass of sugarcane for ourselves too bad I forgot to capture it, it is quite cheap and we shall be back to this shop!

Buono Pizza Bar & Italian Restaurant

When people mentioned about Serangoon, their first thought would be Serangoon Garden, Chomp Chomp and etc... It is a food heaven as what I had heard from.

However this time, I am going to blog about a place hided in a high class secluded area in Serangoon whereby it offers excellent Italian Cuisine.

Operated by an Italian boss, the name of the shop is BUONO Pizzabar & Ristorante. Located at Lichfield Road right at the end of a row of shop houses. This shop has no big signboard, but it is very easy to spot as it is the only shop which selling food on that row of shop houses.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is best for friends gathering or maybe some private time to spent with your love ones. It also offers wide ranges of wines for wines lovers. Service wise is very good, price wise, it is a grab from the quality of the food they offer!

Connie get herself a Salmon Set. It came with a piece of succulent Salmon fish, grilled to perfection with a sauce made from spices from Italy(I guess from what I see, as I never tasted such spices before ;p) blended together with cheese and olive oil. Absolutely brilliant! Not forgetting the side dish, I gave this dish a name of Potato Lasagna. Potato wrapped up with cheese! Both of us love this side dish a lot. Not forgetting, some caesar leave to complete the Salmon Set. It is only SGD22.00!

For myself, I got a thin crust 12 inch large pizza cut into 8 smaller portion. The name of this pizza is called 4 Statsioni. The meaning is, it come with 4 flavors and topped with spinach leaves. I can't remember the exact name, but the picture show it all. Two thumbs up! The crust is freshly made(not those pre-made one like Pizza Hut ;p) and then baked with fire+wood! I wallop 7 pieces of pizza! :P I admit I am a big eater, but I remembered my colleague from Catania, can take 3 x 12inch of this pizza! Maybe due to it's thin crust, you wont get full up easily. For this you only need to spent SGD 22.00.

At the end of the day, we got ourselves a Gelato Napoletano - Strawberry+Chocolate+Vanila Icecream to complete the day! SGD8.00 for this.

If you ask me to rate this restaurant, I give them 4.5/5 Stars. Great food at absolutely reasonable price! We will be back!

Sushi TEI - Uni Friends Gathering Singapore

Recently, we had our uni gathering in Sushi TEI, Vivo City Singapore. This was our first time to visit this restaurant in Singapore.

Heard that this sushi restaurant is one the famous and originated from Singapore. Click here to visit the official website (www.sushitei.com).

Hence, we waited for quite sometime before we got our seat in the restaurant. I ordered a fresh Salmon Don. I would say that the salmon are fresh, but it is expensive. I prefer the one I visited in Nijyumaru, JB. Interested? Click to visit this post about Nijyumaru.

Connie opted for udon. The portion is big, it is filling but the taste is ok.

Nonetheless, the restaurant has a good environment for 10 of us to meet up and share our experiences on our working life after 5 yrs of study in the university. It was enjoyable! Thanks to all for turning up!

From left invertable : {Cindy(Han's gf), Han, Chikkia, Me, Connie, Koon, Lewsoong, Pealong, Teong, Yin(Teong's gf)} Hope you guys enjoyed the dinner too! ^^

Jack's Place

The highlight for this month from CloudLand will be Jack's Place. I would say that it is one of the Singapore cheap eats.

We found this restaurant in Anchorpoint, which is just located right opposite of Ikea outlet in Queensway, Singapore.

We got ourselves seated, and the staff are very well trained and helpful. The restaurant environment is cozy and relaxing.

Glancing through the menu, looking at my watch, it show it is 1.3opm. So, we are eligible for the Set Lunch Specials! Depends on which main course you choose, it has a different price range($9.80, $10.80, $11.50 and etc...).
The Set Lunch Special includes:
1. Soup of the Day
2. Choice of Main Course
3. Dessert of the Day
4. Coffee or Tea

The menu for this Set Lunch Special varies daily. We placed our order and waited for our food to reach. And here it begins...

We were served 1 sky juices each and our starter arrived. Our soup of the day - Chicken & Corn Broth, and a FREE Garlic Bread! Wonderful!

Connie's main course arrived. Grilled Fillet of Fish with Walnut Butter Sauce. It served together with some green beans and carrots. A spoonful of mesh potatoes which is thumbs up. The fillet is fresh and it is just superb!

For my main course, it is Deep Fried Dory Fillet. The fries as well as the fillet are fried to golden brown. I love it!

After the main course, it is dessert time! We were given a sliced of chocolate moose cake and we opted for tea. The moose cake is too sweet for our liking, but it is still delicious ^^

Guess how much it cost us for the above? At SGD25.05(inclusive tax and service charge) it is a grab!

So what are you waiting for? Visit Jack's Place(a member of JP Pepperdine) now. Click here to visit the official website or go to (www.jppepperdine.com.sg)

Swensen - Suntec City

When you ask anyone tried Swensen before? Does it taste good? Their answer will certainly be "Yes". Previously, I did have a dinner with a colleague of mine at Swensen, Vivocity. The result is, it is highly recommended.

However, this time both of us went to have our dinner at Swensen, Suntec City and it turn out to be a big disappointment for us. The service there is not up to the standard. We were made to wait for 10 minutes, to have the menu passed to us! More importantly, if we didn't request for the menu, no one cares about our presence in the restaurant. A big disappointment.

The restaurant is not very full though...

Anyway, let's focus on the food. Glancing through the menu, and finally we made our decision on what to order.

Free flow sky juices is provided.

Pei Quan ordered a butter herb prawns @ $15.90. The prawn is oven baked with herbs butter and topped with tangy tomato salsa. Apart of that, it is served with seasonal vegetables and savory rice. For me, this dish is too expensive. It tasted very normal only.

For myself, I ordered a BBQ half chicken @ $14.90. The chicken is tenderly braised and grilled in smoke BBQ sauce, and served with potatoes and seasonal vegetables. This dish is not bad. Worth a try!

We didn't go for any drinks but instead we opted for a dessert. This is the Banana Crumble @ $13.90. The banana crumble is served on a sizzling skillet with caramelized fresh banana slices and ol'fashioned vanilla ice cream topped with butterscotch cream sauce.

Look it is sizzling hot when it is served...

Butterscotch cream sauce is poured onto it...

Now it is reading to served!

It was a mixture of Cold and Hot, so it is quite special to try out.

X'mas Eve At New York New York(NYNY)

In conjunction of our "Pak Tor" 2 years anniversary and X'mas eve celebration, I took a day off and went to Singapore on morning of 24th, to celebrate with Pei Quan. As Pei Quan is working on that day, so upon reaching I went back to his uncle house by my own.

I took some rest while waiting for Pei Quan to back home. Ding Dong! The house bell rang. Feeling excited, I went to open the door and I noticed that one of his hands is kept at the back. To my surprise he bought me the roses. So sweet!

At night we went to have our dinner at New York New York (NYNY) Restaurant. NYNY has a lot of franchise all over Singapore, but we opted for the one in Clementi, located inside West Coast Plaza. Click here to visit the official website

On this peak period, it is a must to make a booking before you come. Or else, the queue might spoil this special day. Hence, Pei Quan became a New Yorkee in order to book for the seat earlier. He paid SGD30 for the membership. Only the members are allowed to book a seat. Besides that, the membership did provide some exclusive return such as:
-1 free drink of your choice on 1st visit
-a cash voucher of SGD10
-a birthday voucher of SGD15 to be used on your birthday month
-an instant 10% discount on your first visit
-an 10% discount for every subsequent visit
-a special birthday gift if you were to be visiting on your birthday month

In fact, it is worthwhile!

So, upon entering the restaurant, X'mas song was on air and we were well greeted by the staffs along the way. We were then lead to our seat and had our own time to glance through the menu before placing our order. The service we received here was superb!

Let's see what we have ordered:

We ordered a starter to try which is the Juicy Breaded Mushroom @ $9.90

Next up, the main course - Chicken Mushroom Mozzarella Melt @ $15.90

This is a typical American favourite indulgences in one dish.

Up next, Hawaii Teriyaki Chicken Chop @$14.90

The chicken is grilled with teriyaki flavour and pineapple ring.

Want to feel the Hawaiian sunshine? Then order the Summer Cuddle @ $7.90. It is made from frozen strawberries and mango blended into perfection.

I would recommend Berry Paradise. At $7.90, you got strawberries, banana, low fat yogurt and tropical juice which are mixed to perfection.

Another adding point for visiting NYNY, is we are able to make our own cotton candy and it is free flow! Kids will love it. We got ourselves a cotton candy and it was a replica of our childhood memory.

We enjoyed our night out in NYNY, the food, the service and etc, all were 2 thumbs up. It made our special day cum X'mas eve night happier. We promised to visit here again!

We spent our countdown to Xmas by having some Häagen-Dazs ice cream. Yummy!

Sipping some vodka while counting down for X'mas :-)

Not forgetting to unpack Pei Quan's birthday gift from NYNY. A big mug for him!!
